AUTOWAY – Transparent Pricing You Can Actually Trust (really)
  • We’ve rented cars too; we get it.
    • No fake “from €10/day” offers.
    • No surprise fees. Ever.

We’ve been in your shoes.

At AUTOWAY, we travel too. We waited in long airport lines, only to hear, “That’s just the basic price; insurance is extra.” Suddenly, that “€10 per day” deal costs more than the car. We hated that experience. So, when we built AUTOWAY, we decided to do the opposite.

What you see is what you pay for.

Our prices are final, transparent, and honest. No mystery add-ons. No mandatory “optional” extras. And definitely no inflated insurance that doubles your total. Everything’s clear upfront, just like the blue skies of Crete. Before booking, you can even check out our guide on What to Look for When Hiring a Car in Crete to see how we compare.

All in euros. No conversion chaos.

We keep it simple. All transactions are in euros. No hidden fees, no conversion rate shocks, and no surprise card charges. It’s part of why travelers consistently rate AUTOWAY as one of the How is it to Drive in Crete?.

Excess: protection that makes sense.

Here’s the deal. We’ll try to be as upfront as possible. The self-risk (or excess) is your limit if damage happens. If repairs cost €1,000 and your excess is €400, you pay €400 and we cover the rest. If damage is €100, you just pay €100. It’s simply a legal understanding. You only pay if damage actually occurs. Simple, fair, human.

But why?

Well, you have to consider that keeping prices low and maintaining a new fleet is a balancing act. We need to sell our cars after a season, and every scratch or dent reduces their value. If that value drops, it becomes impossible to keep prices affordable for everyone. But instead of charging every time there’s a mark or issue, we only apply costs when a traveller breaks the rental agreement. That’s the risk we take to keep things fair, and sustainable. There are tons of companies who change their branding every 3-4 years and charge for everything. We’re AUTOWAY from 1986, and that is definitely not changing for decades to come.

Charge vs. pre-authorization: no mystery.

A charge is your rental payment. A pre-authorization is a temporary hold, like a mini safety deposit from your bank (we don’t even have access to the funds). We keep it low and release it fast, usually within 3-5 days. You can read more about how we handle payments in our Rental Policy.

We rent cars abroad too; that’s why we care.

Everything about AUTOWAY, from pricing to policies, comes from real travel experience. We know what frustrates travelers, so we built a process that removes the stress. Just clear info, quick service, and no fine print. At least we try to.
