Triopetra Beach – Sea Meets Stone – AUTOWAY
- Three rocks, one epic coastline. Triopetra is quiet, wild, and cinematic where cliffs meet turquoise water and you’ll probably have the beach almost to yourself.
Comparison
Unlike its busier neighbors, Preveli Palm Forest or Agios Pavlos Beach, Triopetra remains blissfully low-key. You won’t find loud music or umbrellas packed side by side, just wind, waves, and the occasional fisherman. It is so large as a beach too, that even if there are many people, you’ll feel mostly alone.

Why Visit
- Peace, space, and unfiltered Cretan nature.
- The rock formations are unreal at sunset, every photographer’s dream.
- Clear, deep water ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
- Hike the nearby cliffs, make a stop on your or check out Agia Irini Gorge or a general south side guide.
Getting There

By car: Around 50 minutes from Rethymno. Follow the road through Akoumia village and keep your camera ready.
By bus: KTEL buses go as far as Akoumia, then you could grab a taxi for the last stretch. Of course, we recommend getting a car, though. It will probably cost the same per day as the taxi, too.
Best Time to Visit
Late afternoon, that’s when the light hits the rocks just right. Stay until sunset if you can.
Insider Tip
Bring snacks, water, and shade. There are only a couple of taverns nearby; one of them, Taverna Nikos, does honest home-style Cretan food, but hours can be random.
If you enjoy this kind of drive, you’ll also love the wild energy of the BANDIT beach or the tranquil water of Igana beach.
