From a Small Dream to a Big Reality

It all started back in 1986 when John Mavros and George Lagoudakis, two lifelong friends with a shared vision, decided to turn their dream into reality. They started with four used cars from Hertz. It wasn’t easy—on their first day, one of the cars broke down the moment it left the lot, with the engine burning out.

But that moment of hardship was the spark that ignited something powerful. It fueled their determination to push forward, learn from their challenges, and grow. And thanks to their grit, a small idea began to blossom into what you see today—a thriving car rental service that is more than just a business, but a community built on trust, dedication, and hard work.

From those first four cars, Autoway began to grow—not just in size, but in heart. John and George built this company with a vision, not just for their families, but for the people who would one day trust them with their journeys. Over the years, their families joined the business, growing it into something special. Today, we have locations across Heraklion Airport, Chania Airport, Rethymno City, and a new location at Kasteli Airport —all with one common thread: a commitment to treating our clients like family. The last one, soon to be operational, will be ready by 2027-28.
