Cretan Beach: Listis – “The Bandit”
  • Secluded beach with legends, caves, and turquoise waters.
  • Great for swimming, cliff views, and a short coastal hike.
  • Only accessible on foot, perfect for adventurers.

A secret cove between Kastri and Tsoutsouras.

“O Listis” Beach sits 69 km southeast of Heraklion, between the villages of Kastri and Tsoutsouras. It’s part of the Kastri region and hidden just below the main road that links the two towns.

You’ll need to walk to reach it.

Park above the beach and follow a steep path down. Another option is to head to the nearby beach of Kampoula and walk a little east along the coast. Either way, getting there adds to the experience.

It’s small, but stunning.

The beach isn’t organized, but it draws plenty of visitors. It has soft sand, shallow waters, and dramatic rocks rising from the sea. Despite the rocky look, the seabed is mostly sandy—ideal for swimming and diving.

Swim east to find a hidden gem.

Past the large rock known as “O Listis” (The Bandit), you’ll discover a smaller beach called Xirokampos. There, you’ll find a freshwater spring that flows right near the sea.

Legends live above the sea.

Towering over the beach is the Rock of the Bandit. It’s steep and full of small caves. Locals say a bandit once lived here—feared by all. You can reach the caves easily from the main road. At the top, ruins of an ancient shrine still remain.
